We have been blessed to go there for Mardi Gras, birthdays, weddings, and conventions. We dig the artsy but down home atmosphere and of course, LOVE THE MUSIC AND FOOD!

On the last full day we were there I decided to take out the camera and do a little sunrise study. I woke before dawn to grab some twilight sky and dramatic shadows and then just watched the sun come up on the monument across from our swanky hotel. Later that evening, we were inspired to create some images of The Hotel Modern, highly recommend it, and their uber-fancy cocktail lounge. We love staying in new places and The Hotel Modern is definitely worth a repeat! Excellent food, cocktails and super service!

This past November, our clients Ashley and David were married on a gorgeous day in the front yard of their Lake Norman home.  Their party was totally awesome and original, transforming an abandoned grocery store into one of the swankiest affairs we have yet to photograph.  With stellar vendors in tow, Vida with Michelle and Crawford and Company Florists, the resulting collaboration was a fete like no other!

Parenthood has been the biggest game changer for Casey and I.  We never truly understood how much you can love someone or care for them until our children came into the world.

We delight with every pregnancy we document and every new bundle of joy who spends time with us and our cameras.

Love truly is the greatest energy and currency on the planet.  We congratulate our new Mommies and Daddies and welcome you to the coolest club ever.

We envision love and romance as an organic and unfussy experience. A warm laugh, a gentle look, a genuine embrace are moments we are striving for with a real couple or model couple. Our beautiful models and the gorgeous Lake Lure setting provided all the inspiration we needed!

Oh, and one other small element…the sun. As any photographer knows, optimum times of day to photograph would be the early, early morning hours and the late, late afternoon hours near evening. Soft, golden or diffused light is nearly every outdoor photographer’s dream. But this was an editorial session, full of schedules and lists and deadlines. In order to respect everyone’s schedules and meet the deadline, we had to photograph the majority of this gorgeous session right in the harsh light hours. Noon, noon thirty and so on provided tiny pockets of shade but mostly unrelenting direct sunlight. Good thing we anticipated this challenge and came prepared. Firing off studio lights when necessary, we were able to achieve the depth we were envisioning without losing sky or water or dress details.

Sometimes, photography is all about getting out in the elements and mixing it up freestyle. Grabbing pieces of light and shaping compositions based on it, and other times you really have to look at each frame like a math problem or puzzle. It is these challenges that make us appreciate the art of our craft even more and are grateful to have those who would put their confidence in us over and over.
